6 Steps To A Texas Home Inspector License
Texas Home Inspector License Step 1
Complete your core Inspector classes at Champions School of Real EstateTM.
328 classroom hours that includes the following:

- Phase 1: Introduction to Home Inspection
- Phase 2: The Home Inspection Report
- Phase 3: Inspecting the Interior
- Phase 4: Foundations, Framing, Pools & Hands on Field Trips
- Of these hours, the following courses must be taken: 30 hours in Foundation Systems, 25 hours in Roof Systems, 30 hours in Framing, 25 hours in Electrical Systems, 25 hours in HVAC Systems, 25 hours in Plumbing, 12 hours in Building Enclosures, 6 hours in Appliances, 8 hours in Standards of Practice/Legal/Ethics, 8 hours in Standard Report Form/Report Writing, and 6 hours of other core inspection approved courses.
- 120 hours in an experience training module (provide a letter from the education provider or a course completion certificate); or
- 120 hours inspecting with a licensed professional inspector who can provide a letter certifying attendance; or
- 3 years as an active licensed professional engineer, engineer-in-training, or licensed or registered architect (provide a license history); or
- 5 years of personal experience in a field directly related to home inspecting (provide 2 reference letters from persons other than the applicant who has personal knowledge of the applicant's work).
Texas Real Estate License Step 2
Submit your Application for an Inactive license and Educational Documents to the "MyLicense" system.
Once you have completed your courses at Champions, you will now need to submit your education, experience and Professional Inspector License Application to TREC in the "My License" system on the Texas Real Estate Commission’s website at https://mylicense.state.tx.us. Click on "Register HERE to set up a user ID and password" and follow the steps to create an account. Once an account is created you will apply for a new license. The application fee for a Professional Inspector license is $90.

Take the State Exam Prep course at Champions School of Real EstateTM.
While waiting for you education to be evaluated and the application to be approved, our exam prep course is the perfect tool to keep your knowledge fresh and help you prepare for the exam.

Upon receipt of your Candidate Information Brochure (CIB), call PSI to schedule your State Exam date and time.

Texas Home Inspector License Step 6
Pass the State Exam
Pass the State Exam within 6 months of filing your application with TREC. You must receive an 75% or higher. Note: If the applicant does not pass the exam after the third time, the applicant must wait 6 months from the last fail date to reapply to take the State Exam. Upon successfully passing the State Exam, we recommend participating in our Champions Inspector Association (CIA) group for continued mentoring and learning.

- Three (3) hours, 150 questions, multiple choice
- May take 3 times during six months
- No required waiting time between tests
Texas Home Inspector License Step 7
Complete your Mandatory Continuing Education
Annually complete your Inspector Continuing Education requirement by completing one 16-Hour continuing education course each year for your 2 year renewal (must be two different courses) from Champions School of Real EstateTM and pay a $58 renewal fee to TREC.
